History of AROCO & AROMA

1882
  • The company “F. Židlický, Prague – Karlín” is founded, producing liqueur essences, essential oils, and ethereal oils.
1895-1897
  • The company F. Židlický, Prague–Karlín relocates to new premises in Prague–Vysočany and is expanded into “František Židlický, First Chemical Factory in Vysočany,” with a production program focused on liqueur essences, rum ether and rum extracts, perfume oils, and other chemical products for the druggist trade.
1898
  • The company “SCHIMMEL and CO., joint-stock company” establishes its branch plant in Podmokly nad Labem (today Děčín V.), dedicated to the production of essential oils and flavoring agents for the food industry, and gradually also for the perfumery, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries.
1932
  • In Prague–Nové Vysočany, the company “Hynek Strnad” is established, producing liqueurs and vinegar using a cold-process method.
1937-1939
  • The company “Hynek Strnad” expands through the construction of new facilities in a new location, enabling the extension of production to include spirits made by hot-process methods, and changes its name to “Hynek Strnad, Producer of Liqueur Specialties.”
1948
  • Nationalization of the companies “František Židlický, Chemical Factory in Vysočany” and “Hynek Strnad, Producer of Liqueur Specialties” under the administration of United Distilleries and Vinegar Plants, national enterprise.
1949 - 1951

    A national enterprise Aroma Brno is gradually formed from the nationalized private companies, structured as follows:

1952
  • Separation of the Brno plant and the establishment of FRUTA Brno, along with the transfer of the consolidated Prague and Děčín plants to United Distilleries, national enterprise Prague.
1953
  • The national enterprise AROMA Praha is established, headquartered in Vysočany (today’s AROCO, spol. s r.o.), with plants in Prague–Vysočany and Karlín, Děčín, Říčany (liqueur plant), Jirny (liqueur plant), Zásmuky (distillery), and Belšánka.
1954
  • The liqueur plants in Říčany and Jirny, along with the distillery in Zásmuky, were transferred from AROMA Praha, national enterprise, back to United Distilleries, national enterprise Prague.
1953 - 1978
  • The plants in Nižbor, Zásmuky, and Židovice — formed from other nationalized private companies with similar production — are gradually integrated into the national enterprise AROMA Praha, and in the 1960s the headquarters is relocated to a newly acquired building in Spálená Street in Prague.
1978 - 1990
  • The national enterprise Astrid is established, later converted into a group enterprise and incorporated into the Fat Industry conglomerate.
1990 - 1993
  • The independent enterprise AROMA Praha, state enterprise, is re-established and subsequently, through voucher privatization, transformed into a joint-stock company with the state as its sole shareholder. At the same time, as part of restitution, the Vysočany plant is returned to the original owners — “František Židlický, First Chemical Factory in Vysočany” and “Hynek Strnad, Producer of Liqueur Specialties” — leading to the formation of the company AROCO, spol. s r.o.
1993 - 1996
  • The company AROMA Praha, a.s., with its plants in Židovice and Děčín, is privatized in the second wave of voucher privatization and acquires new shareholders.
1996 - 2003
  • The company AROCO, spol. s r.o., gradually becomes the majority owner of AROMA Praha a.s., resulting in their capital integration, which — building on the traditions of both companies — enables the creation of the joint manufacturing group AROCO-AROMA.
Present Day
  • The company AROCO, spol. s r.o., is headquartered in Prague–Vysočany and produces liquid and powdered food flavorings, fish bait, and colorants.
  • In 2002, within AROCO, spol. s r.o., the production facilities were consolidated into a single location by relocating the colorant manufacturing plant from Prague–Karlín to new premises in Vysočany.

    In the same year, due to the floods, the development laboratories of AROMA Praha a.s. were also relocated to new facilities within the AROCO premises in Vysočany.

  • At the beginning of 2004, the registered office of AROMA Praha a.s. was changed, and the company’s management along with the development laboratories was relocated from Prague–Vysočany to a new administrative building in Židovice near Roudnice nad Labem.

    Subsequently, as part of the company’s reorganization, production was relocated from the Děčín plant to Židovice in August 2007. The company is now fully consolidated at a single site in Židovice near Roudnice nad Labem, where it operates the production of fragrance compositions, synthetic fragrance ingredients, and savory liquid and powdered food flavorings with spray-drying capabilities, as well as extracts and colorants. With approximately 80 employees, it is a mid-sized company.
